Mario Kegler – (Jacksonville, Fla.), Oak Hill Academy – 2016
Height: 6’7″
Position: Small Forward
Committed College: Mississippi State
Star Grade:
Date: December 4, 2015
Evaluator: Jonathan Hemingway
Location: Marshall Co. Hoop Fest (Benton, Ky.)
I was impressed with Kegler this weekend. His jumper is smooth and seems to have a nice feel for the game these days. He definitely has moved from a “an athletic wing with developing skills” to a “a skilled wing with good physical attributes.” He scored 20 points on 7/12 shooting to earn MVP honors.

Kegler reminds me of a cross between Chris Clarke and Malachi Richardson. He has more skill that Clarke, but is a strong/powerful wing. He showed a nice pull-up game to his right hand.

Kegler has great size on the perimeter. He does a little of everything from a scoring perspective serving as a slasher and a jump shooter. Kegler is one of the more well rounded scoring threats in the class in that regard.

Kegler reminds me of Danjel Purifoy (AL-15) who signed with Auburn, but I saw more skill from Kegler in this setting that I’ve seen from Purifoy in past evaluations. Kegler shot the ball well from beyond the arc while also being athletic enough to attack the basket in transition. He will rebound his position. Day two of this classic saw Kegler score 30 in a match-up versus Huntington Prep. That game was very loose and up and down while being played after midnight. The previous night Kegler only scored 14 on 5/13 shooting versus Carlisle School’s 2-3 zone.
Date: October 11, 2014
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: John Lucas Invitational (Louisville, Ky.)
Kegler is a strong, slashing option at the wing position. His size will let him play either spot with a style of play similar to Dwayne Bacon (FL-15). Kegler isn’t as aggressive a scorer as Bacon but has a similar tool set to work with skill wise and physically.
