MARIETTA, Ga. – Johnson is a legit 6-foot-2 sophomore post player who is comfortable playing with her back to the basket or facing up to knock down the open jumper. She is transferring from Lenoir Rhyne (*has a full release) to continue her playing career. We actually had the chance to work with her during her high school days as well.

Evaluation

Strengths

Unlike a lot of post who face up to score the basketball, Johnson isn’t afraid of contact on the low block. She’s rebounds well in her area and defends on the low block too. Her versatility as a player offensively is a potential match-up strength in either a one-post offense using a versatile forward/center in the lane or in a traditional two-post offense as well. Her touch is consistent out to ’17. She also has taken the weight room seriously gaining what appears to be 15-20 pounds since high school graduation.

Weaknesses

It always takes a minute to get back in the flow of getting quality, consistent game time minutes. Johnson hasn’t had those for the better part of the last two seasons and surely will take a second to get adjusted to being back in that role.

The Bottom Line

Johnson is going to bolster the frontline for a college roster next season. Her overall versatility is a major reason that we think she’ll be an asset as a transfer. She’s a skilled post who works on both ends and in conditioning plus the weight room as well.
