During the tail end of the college basketball regular season, Visitation Nation takes a look at the recent college campus visits from two of the country’s top ranked prospects.
Ortiz Flies to Oklahoma
Gabbi Ortiz of Racine, Wisc., has been a hot name in the recruiting circles this high school season. With offers from Iowa, Marquette, Michigan State, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin amongst others, the 5-6 class of 2014 point guard is one of the nation’s most sought after floor generals. This weekend, Ortiz visited Norman, Oklahoma for the the Sooners game in-state rivalry game against Oklahoma State. While there, she took in the men’s program big home win over No. 5 Kansas on Saturday night. An ELITE 60 prospect, she is a steady ball handler with the explosion and strength to finish plays through contact. Armed with a consistent 3-point shot as well as quality floor vision, it’s easy to see why schools from coast to coast are interested in Ortiz’ game.
Dempsey Sees Blacksburg
Griffin Dempsey of Huntington, W.Va., is another highly recruited point guard in the class of 2014. Dempsey already has scholarship offers from Charlotte, Cincinnati, Massachusetts, Middle Tennessee State, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech amongst others. She visited Virginia Tech for their game versus Virginia on Sunday. Dempsey made her mark this club season with West Virginia Thunder showing that she can make the open 3-pointer and create shot opportunities for teammates off of the dribble drive and kick as well.
