The Georgia Sting have grown into one of Georgia’s premier travel teams over the past fifteen years. Coaches such as Gary McMahan, Eric Kency and Marc Myers grew the program in years past helped numerous players from the Augusta area get to the next level. This year under the leadership of former Duke Basketball standout, William Avery, the program has prospects that are on the radar of college programs nationally. Here is what the Georgia Sting accomplished in 2015.

Season Highlights
Class of 2016 Nia Johnson
The Georgia Sting went on quite a roll during the month of July, which lasted until the Fall weekend in September. After losing to the Essence EYBL in the PSB Summer Kickoff, they turned around and beat the Carolina Flames EYBL the next morning. They have not lost since. Coach Avery’s squad went on a 26 game winning streak, which included championships at the Battle of the Boro Premier Division, the PSB Elite 32 Summer Jam Sessions I & II bracket championships and a championship at the PSB End of the Road.

Returning Standouts
Class of 2017 Alana Davis
The one thing that the Georgia Sting do not lack is size. That starts with 6-foot-2 post player Alana Davis of Augusta, Ga. Her ability to rebound and finish around the rim has already drawn the attention of college coaches from around the country. Alongside of Davis is Sydney Grayden of Evans, Ga., who is a 6-foot post player who provides quality minutes for coach Avery’s squad. Watch for her to have a big year this high school and club season.
Class of 2018 De’Sha Benjamin
The class of 2018 will be one to track for the sting. Six foot one guard De’Sha Benjamin of Augusta, Ga., is one of the more unique players in the class nationally. Her ability to handle, score and defend at her size make her a prospect that we expect to see much more of in future evaluation periods. Add in 5-10 forward Yasmine Avery of Augusta, Ga., and the Sting have plenty of size and athleticism set to return to the circuit next year.
