Since 2002 the Bama Storm have helped young women in the Mobile, Alabama area gain exposure to college coaches. In the process they have seen local high school teams become more competitive in the AHSAA State Tournament. Here is a look at the Bama Storm program and their standout players from past, present and future.

Alumnae Catch-up

Coco Knight of Shelton State was named ACCC Player of the week in 2015. She scored 26 points in a win over Chipola who was the preseason NJCAA #1 team. Her hot hand has continued to help Shelton State to a #6 ranking in the latest NJCAA Poll.

Tyler Phelion of Jacksonville State is a double-double threat this season. She posted a 10 point, 12 rebound effort in a win over Savannah State and most recently posted a 12 point, 12 rebound game in an OT victory over Murray State.

Sierra Pittman of Belhaven University has been named C Spire Athlete of the Week twice this year. The highlight of her year came when she scored 23 points in a win over Hardin-Simmons last month.

Standout 2016 Players

Rekha Berry 150

Class of 2016 Rekha Berry

Coach Thomas coached three prospects that are rated as 3-star prospects by JumpOffPlus.com evaluators. Point guard Rekha Berry of Mobile, Ala., is a quick distributor that has gained the attention of schools like Tennessee State and Arkansas Little-Rock. Post player Ashley Scott of Mobile, Ala., used her size and positioning to be recruited by schools like Faulkner University and Mobile University coming out of the July evaluation periods. July stock-riser, Maggie Robinson of Creola, Ala., is another quality recruit that competed for the Bama Storm this season. Schools like Shelton State CC and Wallace State CC are tracking the 6-foot small forward this high school season.

The Bama Storm also boasted of two other players who played significant roles for this year’s team. Denisha McKenzie of Mobile, Ala., and Jamya Williams of Mobile, Ala., were two guards that gave valuable contributions to this year’s team.

Jailin Cherry 150

Class of 2017 Jailin Cherry

The Bama Storm have a star in the making with class of 2017 combo guard Jailin Cherry of Pascagoula, Miss. The talented guard is a ball handler who can score off the dribble or from range. Her skill and athleticism have drawn attention from major program from coast to coast which include Arizona to Florida. The 5-foot-8 prospect recently was selected to play in the 2016 Mississippi All-Star Game.

In the class of 2018 keep an eye on Destiny Ramos of Mobile, Ala. She is a 5-9 guard that has played for Faith Academy since she was an 8th grader. Now she is a starter and major contributor for the Lady Rams.
