Class of 2014 shooting guard Devin Mitchell of Suwanee, Ga., established himself as one of the premier long range shooters in the senior class nationwide. The Alabama signee is capable of scoring baskets quickly and in bunches. His play earned him an invite to the Elite Basketball Academy Top 40 Workout on March 9, 2014.

Name: Devin Mitchell – Grad Year: 2014
Location: Suwanee, Ga. – School: Collins Hill HS
Current Position: SG – Projected Position: SG

Strengths

Mitchell’s ability to knock down the open shot makes the game that much easier for everyone else around him. He has worked on his step back jump shot coming off of the left hand bounce and is comfortable shooting that from anywhere inside of 23 feet. The four-star prospect led Gwinnett County in scoring as a junior and is on pace to lead the county in that area once again in his final campaign. Jonathan Hemingway of CoachHemi.com says that Mitchell “is one of the best high school shooters to come through Georgia in the past decade.”

Area To Improve

Despite his still developing frame, Mitchell can get to the third level to make and finish plays at the high school level. We project him needing to add strength upon arriving in Tuscaloosa this summer to consistently be able to do the same thing in the rigorous Southeastern Conference night in and night out. Mitchell addressed the issue during a pre-season OnTheRadarHoops.com Interview with Hemingway The quicker he can address that issue the more consistent he will be taking and finishing through contact.

The Bottom Line

Mitchell is a talented prospect at the shooting guard position who should deliver plenty of long range reasons for Crimson Tide fans to cheer over the next four years. The new hand checking emphasis will only aid in his ability to knock down that smooth step back jump shot forcing SEC defenses to keep a defender close by at all times.
