SAN ANTONIO – The WBCA All-American Game annually features 20 of the country’s top players on the Saturday afternoon before the Final Four. This year was no different. Here’s a look at the game:

By: @BrandonClayPSB

5:45 – The Red Team is painfully thin on the roster. Seven players for 40 minutes. Might not be a good look – they do have Natasha Howard (she might count as two players).

5:47 – Today’s National Anthem was the best that I’ve heard all year long. And playing the game at the site of the actual Final Four makes a huge difference turnout wise. There have to be 5,000 people here as opposed to the normal 2,000 or so on hand.

5:51 – Meighan Simmons from Texas has as quick a release as anyone in the class. She’s a great get for Tennessee. Their other signee Lauren Avant is here but not playing due to injury.

5:52 – Simmons with basket number two. She’s so slight that she reminds me of Tayshaun Prince. Jen O’Neill from St. Michael Academy scores for the White Team – can’t believe St. Mike’s is closing its’ doors. Does places that do homework online Apache know Bob Hurley from St. Anthony’s? He’s a legend – maybe he can help.

5:54 – O’Neill scores again – another SEC bound kid as she’s going to Kentucky.

5:56 – Natasha Howard out of Ohio has the best skill set of anyone in today’s game. Comes in off the bench, makes an immediate face cut and scores on a lay-up. Sue Semrau and her Florida State staff have an impact player on the way to Tallahassee.

5:58 – O’Neill one more time for the White Team going into the first media. White 7 – Red 6

6:00 – Kaneisha Horn and Tiffany Moore get on the board for the White and Red, respectively. Then both turn the ball over on the next possession.

6:03 – Horn – who is headed to Alabama – has to settle down and let her teammates make plays for her.

6:06 – Game is not a crisp as it was in the first four minutes. Meighan Simmons is though. She’s everywhere, just scored another bucket.

6:09 – O’Neill right back at her…oh wait, Simmons with another made basket.

6:10 – Red 20 – White 17 with 10:43 left in the first half.

6:13 – Samarie Walker from OH gets on the board for the second time. She’ll be in Storrs, CT this fall.

6:15 – Red 26 – White 17 with 7:46 to go in the half.

6:18 – help me with my history paper Chiney Ogwumike is a real competitor. Teaming up with her sister, Nneka, the next two years in Palo Alto means more trouble for the PAC-10. A true face-up jumper would make her an incredibly tough match-up.

6:20 – The music throughout the game gives it a nice pro touch. Unfortunately, we can’t get a stretch without a dead ball long enough to get going.

6:25 – Tiffany Moore knocks down the open three pointer to give Red a 33-25 advantage with 3:58 on the clock in the opening half.

6:28 – Shoni Schimmel gets the crowd going with a nice behind the back pass to Lindsay Sherbert for the white team.

6:29 – Sara James – headed to Stanford – reminds me of frame and skill set of current Cardinal guard Jeanette Pohlen

6:30 – Schimmel and Chelsea Gray hit back to back threes and the game starts to pickup as the half winds down. Gray is a nice addition for Duke next season. She’ll give Coach P a big combo guard compliment to Jasmine Thomas.

6:33 – Simmons is giving out work on the offensive end. I’d bet she’s taken 15 shots so far though.

6:36 – Schimmel is heating up real quickly – nice And1 dribble drive.

6:40 – Tiffany Moore – a Texas signee – has quickly put together a nice first half of work. Just made a smooth assist to close out the half. Red 48 – help on reflective essay thesis White 37 at halftime.

6:58 – Starting off the second half, Afure Jemerigbe showed a glimpse of what Cal’s Joanne Boyle is getting next season with an athletic putback.

7:00 – Howard answers right back with a three out of the corner.

7:03 – Simmons once again – 17 points on 16 shots so far.

7:05 – The Red Team is trying their best to pull away from the White leading 58-42 with 15:53 left.

7:08 – Gray with a three for the Red…this one might not stay close. They have had the two best performances so far in Howard and Simmons. Save O’Neill and Schimmel this one has been all Red.

7:10 – Moore stretches the lead to 20 for the first time tonight.

7:13 – And the rout looks like it might be coming. White has to be due for a bucket or two – right on cue, Ogwumike hits a nice looking three pointer though after missing the 17 footer right before. She has a great frame.

7:15 – Red is shooting 43% so far, White 36% – Red 71 – 53 with 11:10 to go.

7:19 – Bria Hartley makes a nice move and finishes with her left hand

7:21 – White Team honorary coach Angel McCoughtry has seen enough. She’s on the bench texting looking for some answers to her team’s scoring woes. No punchline.

7:24 – She must have received essays on help a suitable answer as the White Team has cut the lead down to 14, 76-62.

7:27 – Hartley with a big three off a Gray assist – she comes right back down with a two on the following possession. White TO, 81 – 66 Red with 5:47 left.

7:31 – Hartley on the assist to Moore. Ogwumike answers with a three point play of her own.

7:34 – Hartley again with the tough runner in traffic. Ogwumike answers with a 17 footer. Deja vu.

7:36 – Simmons with a three, Hartley a layup, O’Neill and And1. Red 89 – 73 with 3:00 min to go.

7:38 – Tough call between Gray, Hartley and Simmons after Hartley late surge. 19 points on only 11 shots for Hartley. 18 points on 9 shots for Gray and Simmons played the role of a volume scorer to this point with 21 points on 22 shots.

7:41 – Hartley adds to her case with another assist to Moore. The lead is back to 20 with under 2 minutes to play.

7:45 – Final Score: Red 101 – White 81
Gray wins the MVP.
