SUWANEE, Ga. – Over 150 campers piled into Suwanee Sports Academy for a chance to get better over Labor Day Weekend.  While some made a repeat appearance to the EBA Fab 5 Camp, others hit the court hoping to make a good first impression.  The results were the same for all who attended.  Everyone competed and polished skills that will help them become more effective in the upcoming season.

Feature Player

Taylor Gordon — McEachern HS (Powder Springs, Ga.) — 2014

The 5-foot-10 wing had a coming out party at camp this weekend.  The talented junior from the Metro Atlanta area played with the talented A.O.T. squad all summer long and perhaps was overshadowed by the likes of 2013 teammates Diamond DeShields and Peyton Whitted.  However, on Labor Day Weekend, Gordon showed that she could play the role of a primary scorer and playmaker.  She hit the jumper from beyond the arc with consistency and showed her signature power moves in the lane.  Gordon made a strong case to be considered as a ESPN HoopGurlz 100 player in her class.

Spotlight Players

Sierra Jones — Madison Academy (Huntsville, Ala.) — 2014

Jones wasted no time improving her stock at camp.  She showed her playmaking in the first game of the day.  The 5-10 guard scored buckets in nearly every way possible.  She ran the lead guard position and scored off of the ball-screen action.  And Jones even showed that she could hit the ball reversal three, which is an added dimension to her game from the last time we had a chance to see her.  We will be anxious to see how she will build upon this in her high school season.

Alex Gulley — Triple A Academy (Dallas, Texas) — 2015

The importance of the point guard position cannot be overstated.  There is the reason why the Baylor Lady Bears offered the 5-8 point guard as a freshman in high school.   Gulley accepted the offer and is committed to play for one of the premier programs in the nation.  Gulley did not arrive at camp resting on her aforementioned accomplishments; instead she proved to everyone why she is such a heralded player.  Her steadiness and her vision are her strengths.  She did well in not trying to do too much this weekend either.  She certainly played the role of the distributor very well and let the game come to her.

Parting Thoughts

One of our camp favorites was Brianna Hardy.  The left-handed forward from Maryland proved herself to be a player who can do a number of different things on the court and always seemed to be at the right spot at the right time.

Brittany Allen took a wrong turn on her way to Fab 5 camp and ended up arriving a few minutes late.  But that did not keep her from filling up the bucket.  She earned an invite as a shooter and she proved once again that she can do that effectively.

It is always encouraging to see players make strides over the years.  Dyanna Freeman is a long time Team EBA participant and this year the 2015 wing showed that she belonged amongst the upper classmen.  She has made big strides in her skill set and composure.
