Marietta, Ga. – The PeachStateBasketball.com Spring Showdown featured some of the southeast’s top prospects including multiple players ranked in their respective classes by ESPNHoopGurlz. Here’s a look at several players who stood out last weekend.

Feature Player

Tiffany Suarez, A.O.T. Lady Rebels (Miami, Fla.)
Suarez is a consummate team player. The high IQ perimeter threat knows which play is the right play to make at a given time. A 5-foot-9 junior combo guard, Suarez is skilled enough to knock down jumpers within the half-court setting but she is also athletic enough to play at the up-tempo pace that her A.O.T. team likes to play. Suarez’ floor vision is a major reason that ESPNHoopGurlz has her ranked No. 56 in the country overall. Her diverse skill set makes her a player that can fit into just about any style of play.

Spotlight Players

Ashlee Mitchell, Knoxville Lady Panthers Gold (Bristol, Tenn.)
The most successful point guards are natural leaders on and off the court. Mitchell is proving that she more than a leader, but a winner too. It was not enough for the 5-6 point guard to get her squad to the championship game, but she made sure that she brought home a White Division Championship by putting up 26 points in the title game.

Tiffany Lewis, Georgia Hoopstars Black Elite (Chattanooga, Tenn.)
There is no question that Lewis has been shooting in the gym! She hit one jumper from long range on Saturday morning that would have made Rick Ross go “ugh.” In the opening game of the weekend for her Hoopstars Black team, she opened up the game with three straight up jumpers including one from behind the arc. The question mark with the guard out of Chattanooga has been consistency. If she strings together a few more tournaments like she had this weekend, Lewis will erase those questions for good.

Parting Thoughts

We liked what we saw from Rolanda Hayes this weekend. The strong combo guard knocked down some tough buckets going both directions. This is a good sign from her.

Autumn Newby is a problem in the high post area. But look for her game to expand past the paint to the arc area.

Strong, athletic wings are an asset in a game that continues to get faster and more physical. Lakia Bright and Jazzmine Cook fit the mold of the future.

Georgia FBC had more young teams that I could count. Coach Brian Harmon has restocked his program with loads of talent. Look for his teams to make an impact for several years to come.

It always fun to watch a guard-post combo that works. Quinnesha Turner and Tiyonda Davis have a lot of experience together from high school season and it seems to translate to their travel team as well.
