LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Cardinals are ranked No. 3 in the country going into Senior Night. There is both an share of the American Conference title and a possible NCAA Tournament No. 1 seed on the line as they host the nation’s No. 1 team. Coach Jeff Walz says this game is all about “Attention Basketball” as they attempt to defend their home floor by knowing their individual and team responsibilities. We’ll keep you posted.

Ed’s Note: I have to mention that I love how Louisville comes out to the instrumental version of the popular song “Clique.”

FIRST HALF

19:40 – Sr. Forward Asia Taylor gets involved right away with the nice 10 foot jump shot.

18:35 – This crowd is electric. 22,000 cheering as Sr. Shoni Schimmel hits a 3-pointer for her first basket of the night. Louisville up essay on shakespeare 5 to 2.

17:50 – Jr. Forward Sara Hammond gets it going early with a tough finish around the basket.

16:39 – Hammond representing her former club team, Kentucky Premier, well hitting an 18 foot jump shot. Louisville 9 to 7.

16:12 – Schimmel with a nice attack to finish at the rim.

15:45 – Sr. Guard Tia Gibbs with a big 3-pointer to get involved in the scoring.

15:23 – Hammond again with a contested finish over Brianna Stewart to make it 16 to 11 for Louisville.

13:40 – Gibbs hits a tough 10 footer coming out of the media timeout.

12:35 – Jr. Guard Bria Smith comes in and makes a 15 foot jump shot off of the high ball screen.

11:57 – Hammond hits two free throws making it 22 to 21 in favor of the home team.

9:30 – This is the drought that Walz mentioned pre-game. He said “we can’t go five minutes without a basket.”

6:55 – Gibbs with a breakaway layup to break the drought. Louisville is down eight at 32 to 24…make it seven after the And1 free throw. 32 to 25.

5:05 – Jr. Guard Jude Schimmel makes a great skip pass to Gibbs for another 3-pointer. 33 to 28 in favor of UConn.

1:45 – Another scoring drought for the Cardinals but still only down 41 to 28. Sr. Antonita Slaughter steps to the line hitting one of two free throws making it 41 to 29.

1:00 – Slaughter again with a layup to make it 43 to 31.

HALFTIME SCORE: UConn 43-31

SECOND HALF

16:45 – Gibbs with an early basket to start the half’s scoring for Louisville.

14:30 – The Cardinals have got to close out to the UConn shooters. That and keep Breanna Stewart off the glass. Easier said than done.

13:00 – Slaughter finishes a tough basket at the rim.

12:20 – Smith help on writing a research paper with a 15 foot jump shot. The Cardinals fans are trying to get going here. 54 to 42 UConn.

7:40 – Jeff Walz pre-game concern is coming true as the Cardinals have gone five minutes without scoring. They are getting quality looks but just not finishing.

2:24 – Schimmel scores the first Louisville basket in 10 minutes making it 62 to 44.

1:45 – Hammond with a basket making it 66 to 46 in favor of UConn.

:55 – Schimmel finishing Senior Night with a couple of baskets. She hits another at the 15 foot line.

FINAL SCORE: UConn 68-48
