As Notre Dame prepares to move to the ACC, the Irish look to continue the on-floor success that has landed them in the Final Four two years in a row.  That begins with having players capable of making plays in big games.  Coach Muffet McGraw and her staff recruited one of the nation’s top classes in 2013 with three kids in the Super 60, headlined by No. 4 Taya Reimer of Fishers, Ind.  She is joined by No. 25 Lindsay Allen of Mitchellville, Md., No. 39 Kristina Nelson of Buford, Ga., and four-star post Diamond Thompson of Lombard, Ill., in the Irish class.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Irish got a head start on the 2014 class getting a verbal pledge from No. 21 Mychal Johnson of Huntington, W.Va.  The talented 5-foot-8 guard made the six-hour drive to visit the South Bend, Ind., campus for the second time this calendar year.  On the ride back to West Virginia, she decided that Notre Dame was the place for her game to grow.

Mychal Johnson gives the Irish a big head start on the 2014 recruiting class.

With her current skill set Johnson provides McGraw and her staff with a dynamic guard who can play either guard position.  She’s both a facilitator and i need an argumentative essay on gun controls a shot maker and very quick with or without the ball in her hands.  Defensively, Johnson gives them a player who can guard from end-to-end causing real problems to the quick guards who will reside in the new league.  Her physical strength has improved greatly over the past 12 months as she’s dedicated herself to getting stronger through offseason weight workouts and that should only get better in South Bend.

Even though Allen will just be a sophomore on the roster when Johnson arrives, Mychal’s style of play is like current Georgia senior Jasmine James in that she is capable of playing heavy minutes at either guard position.  Like James did alongside point guard Ashley help with my essay Houts early in her career, Johnson will have to be on the floor because she can stick the open jumper and defend.

As far as future recruiting goes, the Irish are just getting started as they have a need for two more elite-level prospects to join Johnson in the 2014 class.  Look for them to sign an athletic wing and a versatile forward to replace both Kayla McBride and Natalie Achonwa as they’ll graduate in the spring of 2014.  Coach McGraw was in Houston, Texas, last week to see Brianna Turner, while another top 25 prospect, Kathryn Westbeld from Kettering, Ohio, was on campus last weekend with Johnson.
