BrandonClayScouting.com Player Evaluations

Date: May 28, 2016
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: Nike EYBL Session IV (Suwanee, Ga.)

Lykes is a smaller option at the position but is tough as they come. He sees the floor well, scores the basketball and competes on every possession. Through 16 EYBL games, he’s averaging 20 points, 3 assists on 82 percent from the line and 39 percent from beyond the arc.

Lykes is one of the premier play-makers from the point guard position on the EYBL circuit. In the pick and roll he is nearly impossible to cover, because he can score at every level or deliver the ball to teammates with the pass. His toughness and shot making ability make him one of the best in the nation.

Lykes is a smaller option at the point guard position. He is a distributor who gets teammates involved and pushes the tempo. Lykes didn’t showcase the ability to stretch the floor in this eval.

Lykes was lightning quick as usual. The short but durable guard shot it well from the arc and hit a plethora of pull up jumpers during the weekend. Also showed his ability to score it via floater. Did a good job using a Tony Parker-like mix of angles and setting himself up to take contact inside in order to finish or get to the line. Although it was common speed for the camp setting, he was a little trigger-happy occasionally and dormant at times when not scoring. Was a bulldog on defense when inspired by the match-up.
