BrandonClayScouting.com Player Evaluations

Date: May 28, 2016
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: Nike EYBL Session IV (Suwanee, Ga.)

After reclassfying to 2017, Fernando has set out to work on his game. His EYBL numbers in just 6 games of play are impressive: 12.8 points, 7 rebounds per on 79 percent from the line, 63 percent from the field. Fernando is an elite athlete who hit a 15 footer as well as a right-handed half hook in this eval.

Fernando is an athletic post option. In this setting, he didn’t show an offensive specialty but did run the floor.

Fernando is a legitimate interior presence who can block shots and rebound. At the same time he showed the ability to hard hedge the ball screen and was able to recover to block a shot on the coverdown. Offensively, we saw more glimpses of back to the basket moves. Yet he is not quite a go-to option. He also seems to be still learning the game or at least coach Doyle’s system at Montverde.

Fernando finished the circuit playing with E1T1. He played 6 games and averaged 7 points and 6 rebounds per game. He has a HUGE build similar to Daniel Giddens (GA-15). On this day he was particularly effective coming off the bench getting productive minutes behind Tony Bradley. He showed touch on the pivot post hooks. Equally impressive was his ability to change shots on the defensive end. He finished the circuit averaging 2 blocks per contest.

Fernando is a legitimate sized post player who didn’t showcase a specialty in this eval. He will run the floor and is a space eater on the inside.
