BrandonClayScouting.com Player Evaluations

Date: June 18, 2016
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: NBPA Top 100 Evals (Charlottesville, VA)

O’Connell has grown several inches since our first high school eval three years ago. In the process, the sharp shooter has become one of the nation’s premier specialists in that category. O’Connell lets it fly early and often. He’ll continue to add strength especially in his upper body.

Date: May 29, 2016
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: Nike EYBL Session IV (Suwanee, Ga.)

O’Connell is a streaky shooter willing to pull the trigger. He leads United with 14.1 points, 3.3 rebounds a game. He’s doing that on 72 percent from the line, 33 percent from beyond the arc. O’Connell will have to get stronger at the next level but has the length / potential elite specialty to be productive.

Date: May 1, 2015
Evaluator: Jonathan Hemingway
Location: Bob Gibbons Invitational (Suwanee, Ga.)

McConnell has grown a few inches since our last evaluation. He is lanky and has surprising athleticism. He does a lot of things well, but has not shown the one skill that can get him over the hump.

Date: March 15, 2015
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: The Preview (Marietta, Ga.)

O’Connell is a wing with good size. He made a nice right hand on left side finish. That said, he showed himself as a shooter with his feet set.

Date: March 15, 2014
Evaluator: Brandon Clay
Location: The Preview (Norcross, Ga.)

O’Connell is a slender framed shooting guard who didn’t showcase a specialty here. We’ll be interested to follow his progress physically as he gets older to see if he fills out, sharpens a specific skill.
