Marcus Derrickson – (Fairfax, Va.), – Team Takeover – 2015
Height: 6’8″
Position:  Power Forward
Committed College: Georgetown

Date: July 17, 2014
Evaluator: Jonathan Hemingway
Location: Nike EYBL Peach Jam (North Augusta, S.C.)
Derrickson is an inside – outside presence. He hit the trail three today and then turned around and attacked the rim from the elbow. He can play with his back to the basket and get to the free throw line. He also has the awareness to pass out of the double team on the low block.

Derrickson looked good again here as he even stepped out to try the 3-pointer. He’s not a specialist at this point in that area but definitely showed that can be a weapon in his offensive arsenal longterm. Derrickson’s game is both solid and steady.

Derrickson did a great job of rebounding the basketball here today. He has great hands which secure passes & loose balls. However, I never see him being nimble enough to guard the arc. He is good in straight lines, but not so much from side to side.

Derrickson is a powerful PF who post & score with his back to the basket. But he also has the footwork to be able to move off screens & shoot the ball facing up. In my mind he is a cut above another 6-8 PF in his class, Noah Dickerson of Atlanta, Ga. because physically he is in better shape.

Derrickson was matched up with five-star ’14 Ben Simmons. He didn’t back down at all. In fact the opposite happened as everything Paul VI did ran computer science research paper through him offensively in the second half. He made a beautiful reverse pivot on the right side to finish on the left side of the floor. He even drew a charge here. He’s not a defensive specialist nor a dominant rebounder but good in both areas.

Derrickson is a smooth scoring option at the forward position. His ability to consistently score from the power forward position reminds me of classmate Noah Dickerson (GA). The way Derrickson gets his points is vastly different than Dickerson though as Derrickson shoots the 3-pointer and is more of a face-up option. He did make a tough sweeping full hook shot at 6 feet here.
