Simmons was both explosive and efficient in a matchup with Antonio Blakeney (FL-15). He made open shots, attacked the rim and got teammates involved. He finished 13-for-19 from the field, 9-13 from the line with seven rebounds, three assists and one turnover.

Simmons played more of the point guard position here than off the ball where I saw him in March. He drove to kick and create for others. That said Jawun Evans (SC-15) bodied him off the dribble drive and showed that Simmons will have to get stronger to compete with elite point guards.

Simmons talent is undeniable. He can play either guard position effectively. He can facilitate or play-create. His frame is becoming an issue now. He will be a big time player, but for him to be an impact player for a potential Final Four caliber team – he has to get bigger. He does not have a pro frame right now and players like Jawun Evans are starting to exploit that now.

Simmons is both skilled and athletic at the guard position. He can score the basketball off the floater in the lane or from outside from beyond the 3-point line. He’s explosive and smooth all at the same time.

Simmons showed tonight that he can score at all three levels in this high school game. He played off the ball and knocked multiple 3s from behind the arc. He also finished on alley-oop passes in the half court set. And he also proved to be a capable lead guard who can get the mid-range to score and distribute to his teammates. He has stringy frame right now, that may be his only physical flaw at the moment. When he fills out, he will have the full package.

Simmons read the pick and roll during the drill work. He made a nice left hand finish at the rim. He also finished at the rim with his right as well even punching a dunk in the half court. Simmons has a smooth jump shot mechanically but it wasn’t falling consistently here.
